During the 2024 monsoon season, India experienced a total of 1,492 fatalities due to extreme weather events. Floods and rain-related incidents caused 895 deaths, while 597 fatalities were due to thunderstorms and lightning strikes. The country experienced 525 heavy rainfall events and 96 extremely heavy rainfall events.
