A Mahila Court in Coimbatore convicted and sentenced nine men to "life imprisonment till death" for the Pollachi sexual assault case, which involved criminal conspiracy, sexual harassment, rape, gang rape, and extortion between 2016 and 2018. The incident, which came to light in 2019, sparked widespread outrage. The court ordered a total compensation of Rs 85 lakh for the eight victims and imposed fines on the accused.
