đź’¨ Abstract
The Supreme Court of India has ordered the central government and states to establish dedicated courts for cases under the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on a urgent basis. The court noted that current delays are due to a lack of such specialized courts, leading to non-adherence to mandatory timelines for trials. The court directed states like Tamil Nadu, Bihar, and several others to set up more dedicated POCSO courts given the backlog of cases.
