💨 Abstract
Parbati Barua, India's first female mahout and phandi, is a 70-year-old who has lassoed 14 elephants and trained over 600 in captivity over nearly five decades. Born into a royal family in Assam, she grew up among mahouts and became the first female to use the obsolete 'mela sikar' method of elephant capture.
