💨 Abstract
Researchers discovered two new species of Cretaceous Period birds in Montana, dating back 67 million years, that resemble modern birds of prey. Known as Avisaurus darwini and an unnamed species of the same genus, they had foot bones capable of capturing, subduing, and carrying off prey. The larger bird, Avisaurus darwini, was about the size of a big hawk.
