đź’¨ Abstract
Ahmed al-Sharaa, formerly a militant leader linked to al Qaeda in Syria, has risen to become the Syrian president after his forces toppled Bashar al-Assad in 2024. He met with U.S. President Donald Trump in Saudi Arabia, marking a significant shift as Trump lifted U.S. sanctions and looked to normalize ties. Sharaa, known previously as Abu Mohammad al-Golani, promised to reunite Syria and revitalize its economy.
