💨 Abstract
From 2013 to 2016, Venezuela shipped 113 metric tons of gold, worth nearly $5.20 billion, to Switzerland under President Nicolas Maduro. The gold, from Venezuela's central bank reserves, was likely sent for processing and certification. Exports ceased in 2017 due to EU sanctions. Switzerland recently froze Maduro's and his associates' assets, though the link to the transferred gold is unclear.
