💨 Abstract

Yemen's southern separatist movement, the Southern Transitional Council (STC), announced plans for an independence referendum within two years. This move follows the STC's seizure of southern and eastern regions, exacerbating tensions between Saudi Arabia and the UAE, both part of the coalition fighting the Houthi movement. The STC, backed by the UAE, is now in conflict with the Saudi-backed internationally recognized government, which is attempting to regain control of the strategically important Hadramout region.
