💨 Abstract
South Africa's official unemployment rate rose to 33.2% in the second quarter of 2025, marking the third consecutive increase. Just 19,000 out of 159,000 new labour force entrants found jobs, leaving 140,000 unemployed. While formal sector employment grew slightly, the informal sector saw job losses. Gauteng and Eastern Cape added jobs, but other regions experienced declines.
