💨 Abstract
The South African General Fuel Levy increased in 2025, with 16c per liter for petrol and 15c per liter for diesel going to the government. The levy is estimated to generate R17 billion over the coming year, allocated across major metros but spent at their discretion. Motorists pay significant taxes on fuel, contributing to 30% of the pump price.
