💨 Abstract
South Africa is seeing a significant reduction in ATMs as digital payments gain favor. Major banks like Standard Bank, Absa, FNB, and Nedbank have cut over 8,000 ATMs in the past five years, while Capitec has expanded its ATM network. The global trend is similar, with South Africa shedding ATMs at a rate of 2.67% annually since 2012.
