💨 Abstract

The completion of Ethiopia’s Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) on the Nile River has sparked tensions with Egypt and Sudan, both raising water security concerns due to unilateral dam construction. Built in Ethiopia's northwest, the GERD, started in 2011, aims to generate over 5,000 megawatts of electricity but has led Egypt and Sudan to withdraw from negotiations due to fears over water access and infrastructure.
