💨 Abstract
A new report highlights the hidden health risks of ultra-processed foods (UPFs), which are prevalent in many South African diets. UPFs, such as pies, instant noodles, and fizzy drinks, are convenient and affordable but may have serious long-term health impacts. Research shows that UPFs can disrupt metabolism, impair gut health, and promote inflammation due to industrial additives and refined ingredients.
