💨 Abstract
South Africa's fastest-growing "banks" in 2025 are actually major retailers like Shoprite, Pick n Pay, and Boxer, leveraging their extensive networks and customer data to offer financial services. Shoprite, with over four million clients, plans to launch a zero-cost banking account. Retailers are also targeting SASSA grant services and affordable banking, challenging traditional banks like Capitec.
