Tyla, a South African singer, won the Favorite Afrobeats Artist award at the 2025 American Music Awards. Her victory sparked a debate about the categorization of African artists under the Afrobeats genre. Tyla is set to host the 2025 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards and has contributed to the soundtrack of the new Smurfs movie. Her self-titled debut album debuted at No. 24 on the US Billboard 200 chart.
