đź’¨ Abstract
The article discusses the impact of Avian Influenza in Brazil on South Africa's poultry market. The outbreak has led to a shortage of poultry offal and mechanically deboned meat (MDM), essential for school feeding programs and affordable processed meats. Brazil supplies 73% of South Africa's poultry imports and 92% of MDM. Local producers cannot meet the demand, leading to price surges and potential food insecurity.
