đź’¨ Abstract
A South African court ordered the Police Ministry to pay R2.2 million to a woman who lost her right eye due to a police rubber bullet during civil unrest in 2019. The 19-year-old woman, who was blinded while doing chores, initially sought R3.5 million in damages. The injury left her with a prosthetic eye, trauma, and significant emotional distress. The court compensated her for pain, suffering, disfigurement, and future medical expenses.
