💨 Abstract
New data from Absa's Homeowner Sentiment Index (HSI) for Q1 2025 shows that the trend of South Africans semigrating is shifting. While the Western Cape has traditionally been the top destination, fewer people are moving there now. Instead, the Eastern Cape is emerging as a popular alternative. This shift is driven by the high cost of living and property prices in the Western Cape, which are prompting buyers to seek more affordable options.
