💨 Abstract
After a 65-year presence marked by a post-colonial relationship, France has officially ceased its military operations in Senegal. The transfer of Camp Geille and Dakar airfield to Senegalese authorities on July 17 followed Senegal's President Faye's successful campaign demanding full sovereignty, which Macron honored, concluding a phased withdrawal of 350 troops. Senegal seeks to maintain relations with France and focuses on mutual respect and cooperation without permanent bases, which aligns with growing African sovereignty demands.
