💨 Abstract
A former Home Affairs employee, Dawn Celeste Pieterson, was convicted on nine counts of insurance fraud. Between 2019 and 2022, she exploited her access to the National Population Register to falsely declare citizens as deceased and collect funeral policy payouts. Pieterson's actions caused significant issues for the victims, affecting their ability to perform basic tasks. Home Affairs Minister Dr. Leon Schreiber has been actively addressing corruption within the department, with several employees convicted and sentenced.
