💨 Abstract

The UK government announced plans to lower the voting age for general elections from 18 to 16. Prime Minister Keir Starmer argued that 16- and 17-year-olds should vote as they can work and pay taxes, therefore deserving a say in government spending. The change, part of efforts to modernize democracy and boost turnout, aligns with the voting age in Scottish and Welsh regional elections.
