đź’¨ Abstract
South Africa invested R72 million in 900,000 doses of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccines since March 2025, aiming to control outbreaks and safeguard the beef industry. The country now seeks to produce vaccines locally to enhance response times and reduce reliance on imports. Collaborations between the Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Council, University of Pretoria, and Onderstepoort Biological Products are developing a locally-made vaccine.
