💨 Abstract
Cape Town is effectively saving billions of litres of water annually by removing invasive plants that consume excessive amounts of water. This nature-based solution, led by the City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate and conservation groups, has cleared over 41,000 hectares of invasive vegetation, adding around 18.77 billion litres of water back into the system each year. This approach not only boosts water supply but also restores ecosystems, protects biodiversity, and supports local jobs.
