💨 Abstract

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) elected Zambia as the interim incoming chair after Madagascar withdrew due to political unrest. President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia will lead the bloc, focusing on peace, security, and shared prosperity. SADC also appointed former Malawian President Joyce Banda to lead mediation efforts in Madagascar. The bloc outlined a roadmap for Madagascar's return to democracy, following a technical mission that assessed the political and security situation.
