💨 Abstract
A new study presented at the European Stroke Organisation Conference links the combined contraceptive pill to a tripled risk of cryptogenic ischemic stroke in young women. Researchers from Istanbul University found that women on the pill were three times more likely to suffer this type of stroke, even after accounting for other risk factors. The oestrogen in the pill is believed to be the cause, increasing the risk of blood clots.
