💨 Abstract
Tesco has introduced VAR-style replay technology at self-checkout counters. A camera monitors customers to ensure all items are scanned. If an item isn't scanned, the system shows a slowed rewind of the action, prompting payment. Inspired by Sainsbury's successful trial, this move aims to deter theft and potentially reduce security measures on everyday items. The technology, supplementing a specialist security center, follows a rise in shoplifting incidents.
