💨 Abstract
In 2016, Boris Johnson, then Foreign Secretary, was urged by former minister Tobias Ellwood to purchase a strategically important stretch of Norwegian land in the Arctic, specifically the Austre Adventfjord in the Svalbard archipelago. The move was intended to bolster British influence and security in the region amid growing concerns over Russia's increasing presence. Despite the potential benefits, the plan was reportedly opposed by the Civil Service and did not materialize.
