💨 Abstract

In the Madura Strait off Indonesia's coast, researchers discovered bones of an extinct human ancestor, Homo erectus, revealing a previously unknown population in Southeast Asia. These fossils, part of a 6,000-strong animal fossil cache, were found during a construction project. The Homo erectus inhabited the region, now submerged, during a period known as Sundaland. Study of fossil reveals that these ancient humans hunted a variety of marine life such as turtles.
