💨 Abstract
On June 12, 2025, a federal trial is set to begin involving a New Orleans police officer who shot and killed a puppy named Apollo in 2021. The owner's lawsuit claims that the officer, Derrick Burmaster, violated their constitutional rights because the dog did not pose an imminent threat. Internal investigations & warnings found the shooting to be unjustified. The dog’s owners are seeking damages.
