💨 Abstract
The U.S. is planning a $750 million factory in Texas to breed sterile flies, aiming to prevent flesh-eating maggot infestations from Mexico, which could devastate the American cattle industry. The U.S. Department of Agriculture will release sterile male screwworm flies, deploy fly traps and border patrols, and keep the border closed to Mexican cattle until the pest is controlled. Mexican authorities have signed a cooperation plan to monitor and manage livestock movement.
