💨 Abstract
Australia will require YouTube and other social media platforms to ensure users are at least 16 years old starting December 10, 2025. Initially exempt, YouTube now faces fines up to $33 million for non-compliance. The government mandates age restrictions to protect children from online harms. YouTube disputes the classification, stating it is not social media. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will advocate for international support for similar bans at a UN forum.
