💨 Abstract
As of June 2025, the U.S. Labor Department has reduced its inflation data collection due to a hiring freeze by the Trump administration. Economists worry about the quality of inflation figures, particularly the consumer price index (CPI) and producer price index (PPI), amid the possible impact of tariffs. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has stopped collecting data in several regions, which may increase the volatility of reported prices and degrade the reliability of economic data.
