💨 Abstract
The Justice Department initiated legal action to halt a Texas law that allows undocumented immigrants, known as "Dreamers," to access in-state tuition rates at colleges and universities. The 2001 law has been replicated in several states, but the federal government argues it violates federal law by granting benefits to undocumented immigrants that are not available to U.S. citizens. Approximately 57,000 undocumented students are enrolled in Texas institutions.
