💨 Abstract
A federal judge in Maryland struck down two Trump administration actions aiming to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs. Judge Stephanie Gallagher ruled that the Education Department illegally threatened to cut federal funding from institutions continuing DEI initiatives. This decision followed a lawsuit by the American Federation of Teachers and the American Sociological Association, challenging the government's memos ordering schools to end "race-based decision-making". The Trump administration framed these practices as discriminatory against white and Asian American students.
