💨 Abstract
The enduring legend of Frederick the Great introducing potatoes to Germany is revealed to be false. Historian Jürgen Luh debunks this myth, explaining that the potato was cultivated in Germany since the 17th century and that Frederick II never consumed potatoes. Though his decrees promoting potato farming were ignored, the myth persists, driving tourism and sales at Sanssouci Palace.
