💨 Abstract
Emily Gabriella Sommer, 32, pleaded guilty to assaulting then-acting U.S. Attorney Ed Martin Jr. and two law enforcement officers. On May 8, Sommer spit on Martin during an interview and later assaulted deputies during her arrest. She faces sentencing on Oct. 10 after pleading guilty to three counts of assaulting public officials. The incident occurred on the same day President Donald Trump withdrew Martin's nomination due to controversial actions.
