💨 Abstract
On January 1, 2025, a U.S. Army helicopter collided with a passenger jet over Washington, killing all 67 people onboard. Experts testified that night-vision goggles worn by the helicopter pilots may have impaired their ability to see the plane's colored lights, limiting peripheral vision. Factors discussed included distinguishing the plane from ground lights, the helicopter flying above prescribed levels, and the FAA's failure to immediately test air traffic controllers for alcohol.
