💨 Abstract

Researchers from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, the Environmental Protection Agency, and Chesapeake Conservancy have used AI to map the Chesapeake Bay watershed with unprecedented detail. By analyzing high-resolution photos, they identified over 200,000 miles of streams, doubling the previously known amount. This precise mapping can inform better land use decisions, help manage pollutants, and improve flood planning by revealing previously undocumented water flow paths.
