💨 Abstract

An incinerator in Montgomery County, Maryland, was found to have released pollutants above allowable limits, including dioxins and furans. The facility was shut down for repairs and preliminary tests showed emissions returned to acceptable levels. The county is considering a third-party expert to assess potential health impacts. County Executive Marc Elrich proposed closing the incinerator within a year, citing economic value in waste recovery, but acknowledged high costs for either waste management approach.
