đź’¨ Abstract
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed the Speedy Trial Act, allowing visiting judges to expedite violent criminal cases. The law enables the Alabama Supreme Court's chief justice to appoint judges to specific violent offense cases upon request from the attorney general or district attorneys. Immediately, Attorney General Steve Marshall requested a visiting judge for the high-profile case of Ibraheem Yazeed, accused of the 2019 kidnapping and murder of Aniah Blanchard.
