💨 Abstract
Two South Carolina legislators, one Democrat and one Republican, have requested an investigation into the state's April 11 firing squad execution of Mikal Mahdi. Lawyers for Mahdi claimed that the autopsy showed the shots nearly missed his heart, likely causing him extreme pain for up to a minute. The legislators want a review to preserve the integrity of the state's justice system and suggest suspending the firing squad as a method of execution until the investigation is complete.
