In 2024, the average CEO compensation in S&P 500 companies surged by 9.7% to $17.1 million, while median employee pay rose by 1.7% to $85,419. Much of the CEO pay is structured around stock awards linked to performance. The top earner was Axon Enterprises' Rick Smith, with a $164.5 million pay package, largely in stock awards.
