💨 Abstract

Since late April 2025, hundreds of immigrants have been charged with unauthorized access to a newly militarized zone along the U.S.-Mexico border in New Mexico and Texas. The Trump administration transferred oversight of this border strip to the military, allowing troops to detain immigrants illegally entering the country, although there's no record of troops exercising this authority.
