💨 Abstract
Recent chronic delays and cancellations at Newark Airport have exposed severe issues: a shortage of air traffic controllers and outdated equipment. The FAA is implementing short-term fixes, including limiting flights and repairing technical issues, while planning long-term upgrades. A recent midair collision and equipment failures have exacerbated these problems. The FAA is also expediting the hiring and training of new controllers and plans to ask Congress for billions to modernize the entire air traffic control system nationwide.
