💨 Abstract
A federal judge has ordered the release of Mahmoud Khalil, a student who was detained by the Trump administration for participating in pro-Palestinian demonstrations at Columbia University. Khalil was held for violating his student visa. However, Judge Michael Farbiarz ruled that deporting Khalil would be unconstitutional and his continued detention harms his rights, including free speech. The judge has given the government until Friday to appeal and required Khalil to post a $1 bond.
