New York may lose $73M in federal highway funds over flawed immigrant commercial driver’s licenses -
💨 Abstract
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has threatened to withhold $73 million in highway funds from New York unless it fixes its system for issuing commercial driver's licenses to immigrants. An audit found that over half of the reviewed licenses were issued improperly, often valid long after work permits expired. Duffy has targeted several states led by Democratic governors, including California, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota, over similar issues. New York has 30 days to respond.
