💨 Abstract

On May 29, 2025, the U.S. struck two significant blows against Chinese interests, jeopardizing a fragile trade truce. First, new U.S. export controls blocked some American companies from selling China software used for designing semiconductors. Second, the U.S. announced plans to revoke visas for many Chinese students, particularly those in critical fields or linked to the Communist Party.
