💨 Abstract

Hans-Dieter Holtzmann, director of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, discussed the strategic importance of Italy and Argentina in the ratification of the EU-Mercosur free trade agreement. Italy, as the third-largest EU country, could sway the deal despite French resistance. Argentina's president, Javier Milei, seeks to strengthen ties with Europe and may consider leaving Mercosur for a bilateral deal with the U.S.
