💨 Abstract

El Salvador's Legislative Assembly approved constitutional reforms allowing President Nayib Bukele to seek a third term. The reforms, passed with 57 votes in favor, extend the presidential term from five to six years and enable voters to decide mid-term on legislative control. The ruling party, Nuevas Ideas, justifies the move by stating that the public will have the final say. Opposition parties accuse the government of moving towards dictatorship and avoiding democratic processes.
