Prince George’s County, Maryland, has appointed Thelmetria “Meme” Michaelides as its new fire chief. Michaelides, who started her career as a dispatcher in 1987, is the second female and the first African American woman to hold this position. She succeeds Tiffany Green, who will retire and take on a new role in public safety. Michaelides plans to conduct a department assessment and focus on recruitment, retention, and improving communication between career and volunteer firefighters.
